ONNI TALAS GRANTS TO ATTEND SCIENTIFIC DIVING COURSES AT TVÄRMINNE ZOOLOGICAL STATION
The Finnish Scientific Diving Academy (FSDA; www.helsinki.fi/finnish-scientific-diving-academy) was established in autumn 2021 to revitalise the training of scientific divers in Finland. The goal is to create a leading first-class facility in cold water based scientific diving at Tvärminne Zoological Station. Registration for the first scientific diving (occupational level) 6-week courses is now open. The courses are led by Edd Stockdale at Tvärminne Zoological Station.
The Onni Talas Foundation is now generously offering personal grants of 5000 euro to cover the course fee (3000 euro + 24% VAT = 3720 euro) and the accommodation costs at TZS.
These grants are open to students at Finnish universities at BSc/ BA, MSc/ MA or PhD level in relevant fields
(e.g. marine sciences, maritime archaeology). Bachelor students need to be close to finishing their degree
at the time of the course, since an academic degree is a prerequisite for getting the Occupational Scientific
Diver certification.
The recipients of the grants will be chosen based on a free-form application, including:
- a motivational letter
- academic CV
- diving qualifications
- number of logged dives and
- number of cold water dives (<10C) or dry suit dives.
- State also which course you would want to register for (starting in April or in August).
Please send your application in English as a single pdf-file to Edd Stockdale (edward.stockdale@helsinki.fi).
